Hello! I recently read your post on tattoos and piercings and thought it was wonderful. I have a question though: how can you acknowledge that we are not under Old Testament law, and yet use two quotes from Leviticus to say that homosexuality is a sin? While you used two New Testament quotes as well, the 1 Corinthians one had a translation error, and the Romans one was interpreted incorrectly. I admire your use of context when interpreting verses, and am interested in your thought process here.

Thank you. And you are right on that. But the thing here, is that there are no New Testament references to tattoos and piercings. Nothing to say that you should continue to not do those things. In the New Testament for homosexuality, it says several times that we are still not to practice those “sexual immoralities” among ourselves. The New Testament still supports the Old Testament in that. Also, when Jesus came, many of those Old Testament practices didn’t exist anymore. But one thing He still supported against and preached about was sexual immorality. Most times, it is not straight forward saying “homosexuality”, but sexual immorality includes that in itself.
Need more New Testament verses for homsexuality/sexual immoralities (also impurities)?
Ephesians 5:3- “But among you there must not be either sexual immorality, impurity of any kind, or greed, as these are not fitting for the saints.”
Matthew 19:5- “and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and will be united with his wife, and the two will become one flesh’?” (In this verse, it states man will leave to unite with his wife. Notice how it says wife, not partner/husband/boyfriend)
1 Corinthians 6:9-11- “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, the verbally abusive, and swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God. Some of you once lived this way. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” (I don’t understand what part of this verse is a translation error, as I saw many translations referring to homsexuality.
Romans 1:24- “Therefore God gave them over in the desires of their hearts to impurity, to dishonor their bodies among themselves.” ( I don’t understand what part of this is interpreted incorrectly. This verse talks about what was going on with adultery, homosexuality, and sexual lusts that were committed.
If you are still confused or anything, let me know.
(Please excuse this having to be split.) What counts as “sexual immoralities”? Why would homosexuality be considered a “sexual immorality” and not, for example, having sex while a woman is having her period (Leviticus 19:18)? Matthew: this does not say anything against homosexuality. There is nothing exclusively heterosexual about it…

Sexual immorality (according to the Bible) can be:
Adultery
Fornification
Sexual Perversion (including homosexuality, sexual relations with (ie) your sister, brother, mother, etc.)
Immorality of the mind
Remember, having sex with a woman on her period was something people did not do because it was a Leviticus Law. In today’s society, as well as in the New Testament, that was dropped because of mainly new laws stated by Jesus and what he has done for us.
Matthew speaks about such things, though not mentioning the word homosexuality.

…1 Corinthians: the words “passive homosexual partners” and “practicing homosexuals” are translated incorrectly. In Greek, it is ‘malakoi’ and ‘arsenokoitai’. ‘Malakoi” refers to young male prostitutes. ‘Arsenokoitai’ is a rare word in ancient texts and it is not entirely known what this refers to. In Greek culture at the time, it was not uncommon for married men to have sex with young boys outside of marriage…

You’re correct for the most part. But tell me exactly then what married men having sex with young boys outside of marriage means. What does that contain? And these verses were written to the Christians living in those times, encouraging them not to fall to those kinds of practices. It was a warning to not live those kinds of life styles, because most of the people in the New Testament, that were new Christians still fell into the common practices of Non-believers/pagans/etc.
Little fact for you:
There are twelve mentions of homosexuality in the Bible:
- 2 refer to rape (Genesis 19:5, Judges 19:22)
- 5 refer to cult prostitution (Deuteronomy 23:17-18, 1 Kings 14:23-24, 15:12-13, 22:46, 2 Kings 23:6-8)
- 1 refers to prostitution and pederasty (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)
- 4 are nonspecific (Leviticus 18:21-22, Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:26-27, 1 Timothy 1:8-10)
